On March 30, 2008, our club experienced for the first time the death of one of our
members and friends. Dick Farr joined the club at the time of its formation in 2004 and
was a frequent and enthusiastic participant in club events over the years.
One club member who knew Dick well is Ron Domkowski, who offers this memorial to his friend.
Dick was a loving and caring person. Next to his family and job
came his beloved yellow 356 Porsche. He toiled many hours and days
since he took ownership of the 356 to continue to bring it up to his
standards no matter how long it would take. Dick was a born auto
mechanic and had automotive knowledge and skill few of us possess.
His garage was equipped with the latest tools and 4-post lift many
of us dream about and he put those tools to good use. Over the
years he and his sons under his guidance bought and rebuilt a few
cars together. I am sure the seeds of his knowledge are well
planted in his children and they will benefit from this for years to
come. He was also known to be an extraordinary purchasing
negotiator on any item from a TV to a car: he always got the best
deal in town and he was proud of it. He did not hesitate to tell you
the tale of his deals.
We will miss his smiling face and his yellow 356 Porsche. May God
welcome him into his arms! He is gone but not forgotten.
Your friend,
Ron Domkowski
On behalf of the membership, the Midwest 356 Club has given a memorial
contribution in Dick's name to the Illinois chapter of the Leukemia
and Lymphoma Society.
